BRINGING HOPE AND PRACTICAL HELP TO THOSE IN NEED
BIGLOVE was created by Michael Johnson and was originally launched in partnership with Revelation Church in 2007. The aim of the project is to ‘bring hope and practical help to those in needs’ specifically in Chichester, Bognor Regis and the surrounding areas. We work from a Christian ethos and through our words and actions we hope to affirm the faith that can be lost by those who suffer from hardship. Biglove works with a growing group of trained volunteers to deliver its services as listed bellow:
Our services include:
- We provide a three course hot meal between 12pm and 2pm. This is on a Monday, in Chichester for those who are street homeless and those who are vulnerable. We feed around 30 to 35 people. We also provide clothing and other essential needs free to our guests.
- Through the course of the week hot food, food parcels, clothing or house hold items are delivered to those in need. Our clients are given the choice to register with us for our befriending program or can stay on a casual basis.
- Those who opt for befriending/support receive regular visits being weekly or two weekly or if the need is more it could be as much as two visits per week. We respond to the need and it has been known for us to visit a client on a daily basis but only in extreme cases and only if the client agrees.
- If a client is homeless we will assist in housing options. We have successfully housed 74 individuals in the past thirteen months. If we identify any issues we will encourage our clients to visit appropriate agents and we will support our clients through these areas. Three of our clients are currently doing well in rehabilitation centres and we have seen eight people who suffered addictions get clean.
Our register already has over 60 registered clients plus an additional 40 casual clients. These clients vary from the street homeless to single parents and whole families in accommodation. This does not include the people we feed on Monday so in reality we provide a service for 140 clients. Any service we deliver we deliver in love and it is our mission statement to put the love back into care.
We are now in the process of negotiating a building in Bognor Regis where we will be opening both a soup kitchen and a place of worship for those who are vulnerable.
Biglove is a small grass roots charity that relies totally on local donations. We receive no funding whatsoever.
